Our Baby Gift Business Story

If you are an American business owner and want to import from China you should read this article. Tip one is to get your passport and China Visa ready. We have traveled to China for importing from China. We think it is important that you understand the logistics.

This is our story of how we started a baby gift business that has become a top website called blissliving.com (first page on Google, Yahoo and MSN for 'baby gifts") that listed ahead of babies r us. It all started with a plan on what products to sell. We determined after extensive market research in the United States that we wanted to become the top baby gift business on the internet selling unique baby gifts, nursery decor, celebrity diaper bags (such as Angelina Jolie's storksak diaper bags), nursery artwork, and nursery room decor in the U.S. We set up Blissliving.com and then planned our China trip. Now that we know we wanted to sell baby holiday gifts, celebrity diaper bags and children's artwork, we planned on a trip to China. Cora and I first obtained our China Visas and updated our passports (always make sure your passport has an empty page, preferably two, as the Chinese consulate will need one page to stamp your China visa and a second page if you plan to travel in and out of China. We then researched the China Trade Shows and collected important contact information for travel to China. We proceeded to China in October 2005 and visited Beijing, Shanghai, Suzhou and Hangchow. We also checked China and baby gifts trade shows in Los Angeles. We made Chinese contacts and contacts who were fellow American travelers and business people. While we were in China we learned a lot more about recent Chinese History and Ancient Chinese history, China demographics, and Chinese Culture and Art through a Beijing tour guide and a Shanghai tour guide. While in Beijing we also learned more about the preparations for the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2008 Beijing Olympics schedule and the Olympic venues.

Everytime we visit China it is amazing how fast innovation is, and the amount of products offered by this vast country. We are definitely planning to source more products and China is the best place to import from. We are also considering exporting to China some of our customized and high quality baby gifts. That sounds like an oxy-moron by we are planning to manufacture and do business in China by designing high quality products, while manufacturing and selling in China. Chinese consumers are becoming wealthier with the rise of the middle class. As a potential American Business in China we definitely need to learn about the Business etiquette and Chinese culture.
